Pics from Trips
Here is the place to put some of my favorite pictures from my bicycle trips around mountainous Greece. I am not a good photographer nor I use expensive cameras, Photoshop or any other filter app. Just an old compact camera that tries to capture some of the magic of the beautiful places I get to see while on a bike.
This is the lighthouse in the southern part of Lefkada Island (stll working). Beautiful view and a breathtaking cliff right in front! We spent a night there. I am the guy with the orange hat just waking up…We spent the night in a beautiful forest clearing close to Pramanta Village. The birds singing beat my alarm clock
The sun was dawning and we had to find a place to spend the night. The cemetery was the obvious choice…A breathtaking view to Mirtos, the most famous beach of Kefalonia. Right here, the recent earthquake of 2014 created a huge crack on the rock above the beach, cutting the road in half. The road is still under construction but fortunately, we are cyclists, and cyclists can go everywhere!A quick rest after Souvardo village on a bench with incredible view on the dense forests. This rough road leads to Tsivlou Lake and then to Doxa Lake (we were cycling for 2 days on this road and we didn’t see a single car).If you are stressed, just go for an overnighter in the woods! The majestic rocks of Meteora (you can look it up on google). These huge rocks host many old monasteries with hundreds of monks living in them. It’s a spectacular view! This is the point I was looking at when I was still at the Eges village. I sat there and relaxed looking at a 360 view. After having a conversation with a local shepherd we started heading back.Few kilometres further up another bench with even more beautiful view. We decided to call it a day and sleep here so we can wake up looking at this view!Carrying an exotic pineapple around PeloponneseWe were happy rolling down the hill and almost missed that! This mother goat just gave birth to this cute baby! We were lucky enough to come across this beautiful sight while cycling on Panachaikos mountain.A beautiful gravel road in Iti mountain. I don’t think I have been in a better cycle path. One of my favorite places to sleep. Pebble beaches. Natural matress and soothing sounds from the sea!The natural Jacuzzi where monks from a nearby abandoned mountain top monastery probably had their morning dip!Not alwas easy to find a luxurious sleeping place like this, but when you do, you feel like a king!
[caption id="attachment_1460" align="alignleft" width="652"] This is my life!
After a heart pumping dangerous climb, I have managed to reach the top of this waterfall. You can see the guys shouting at me!A beautiful ride into the Erymanthian Boar’s lair…An other overnighter is almost over…The Greek Grand Canyon? Nope.. But it’s very nice and it’s not too far away from the city centre.Great overnighter (although we had too many aggressive mosquitos) in a beautiful beach! After 140kms under the brutal summer sun, clouds are starting to gather up for a rain above this frightnening climb! One of my favorite pictures! Beautiful wild flowers on the top!My friend Tasos can’t wake up from this dream!I was trying to have a poo in peace under the heavy rain while they were laughing, yelling and taking pictures of my smiley ass!I’ve been to that mountain more than 15 times and every time something takes my breath away. Can you see their eyes glowing in the dark? Are they ghosts, fairies or demons?Nick is pushing his bike up to the mountain while snow is starting to fallA nice road across the ancient Foloi forest. According to the Greek Mythology it was the home of of Centaurs, the half man -half horse creatures!A romantic soul put this weird chair here for passengers to sit and enjoy the viewLet our tired souls float freely above this dark worldThis is what I call mountain magic!Freedom at the left, death at the right and chaos at the backMist and rain soften our hearts! My friend Apostolis on the edge of this great little balcony with awesome viewAfter some serious relief behind the bushes, I hear the wild sea calling me!On the biggest of all Achaia mountainsOn magnificent holy mountain of Varasova. Floating on heaven! The glowing tree (no photo editing)!Greek light on the mountainsWinter swimmingView from a beautiful cave in AetolokarnaniaA flat road atleast!
I can’t even remember this but it seems nice. Pluff!
Eating greek salad and almonds under the sweet shadow of that Holly oak.My little special spot on SantameriA good opportunity to take off some clothes! This is how I meditate.Very scary place to stand on. Deep void in front of me and behind me as wellNature’s massage. Superb feeling of euphoria!Swinging above Ladonas riverAfter eating the great cuisine of my friend Gabriel on Panachaikos mountain we are rolling back to our base.Relaxing after 3 hours of ascentDiscovered this hidden waterfall and decided to take a shower. Melted snow on my head! Ouch!
The old nice Panachaikos, full of beautiful cloudsHumidity was my worst enemy that night. But I’ve enjoyed a very peaceful morning with great sunrise the next morningMy worst mountain night in my life. Pure evil cold wind! I couldn’t feel my legs for hours!A royal natural garden on top of Santameri moutain. They say that the Byzantine Emperor Constantine Palaiologos burried his wife here in that area.Touching the skyCrazy moments. After hours and hours on skin ripping trekking full of wild vegetation with nasty spikes, we found this majestic placeVery hospitable little spot between hills somewhere in PeloponneseVouraikos Gorge jurassic park scenery. According to mythology this gorge was created when Hercules sliced the rocks open with his sword to find the woman he loved. Her name was Voura. The magnificent caves of mnt Varasova. This mountain is considered holly, because in the post Byzantine period it was full of monasteries as well as eremites living in those caves.Barefoot climbing in Tafiassos moutain where the Nessos and other Centaurs were burried. We’ve tried to sleep inside the caves in the background but was impossible, so we slept on a very nice flat space with 360 degress breathtaking viewI don’t know why and how but this spot has magnificent light every time I visit itGreat view from Panachaiko mountainExtraordinary, card-postyal like scenery in Erymanthos mountainFew bites before departionThe cure for achy eyes. Divine greenessScary sounds during the night and very chilly temperatures. Somewhere in SpartaDefinition of zenTastiest little sandwitch in my life. Look out the view!Deciding where to go. Tasty meal during great sunsetSleep in an abandoned building beside a busy national road. Creepy nightTallest tree in the world? Can you see what I see from up there?Great adventure. Wrong calculations made me climb with very little water. Thirstiest day of my lifeSleep inside a second floor cave (outside was freezing, inside was hot)Very crappy photograph of a magnificent place with unbearably cold waters. There is a small balcony behind the waterfall that you can shit on.Sleeping in the Ghost Village build to host greeks from diasporaLooking the wind turbines as I wake up0 celcius temperatures in the morning. Everything frosted.Beutiful sleeping spot in Kalamata city after hours and hours on bikeWaterfall climbing. Some said that it can’t be done!Beautiful scenery, the last hill to summitSleep on cotton 🙂 Very very cold nightWild wake up in a very windy morning
